First Lady Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance at the Oscars on Sunday night via video to announce that "Argo" had won the Best Picture award.

Obama was introduced by Jack Nicholson and said she was thrilled to introduce the nine Best Picture nominees.

"I am so honored to help introduce this year's nominees for best picture and to help celebrate the movies that lift our spirits, broaden our minds and transport us to places we have never imagined," Obama said.

"These nine movies took us back in time and all around the world they made us laugh, they made us weep and they made us grip our armrests just a little tighter. They taught us that love can endure against all odds and transform our lives in the most surprising ways, and they reminded us that we can overcome any obstacle if we dig deep enough and fight hard enough and find the courage to believe in ourselves."

After she announced "Argo" as the winner, she followed up on Twitter:

Ben Affleck Oscars 2013 speech

Ben Affleck may have been snubbed for a Best Director nod at this year's Oscars, but his passion project "Argo" took home Best Picture during Sunday night's show.

But instead of using his podium time to hold a grudge against the academy, Affleck gave a heartfelt speech in which he thanked his wife, children and reminisced about his first Oscar win for "Good Will Hunting" when he was "just a kid."

When thanking his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, Affleck said, "It's work, it's the best kind of work...and there's no one else I'd rather work with."

The choked up director/actor/producer then thanked his three young children and quickly walked off-stage before the tears started to run. Watch below at 5:05.

The Funniest Moment From Michelle Obama's Surprise Oscar Appearance

First Lady Michelle Obama made a cameo at the Academy Awards last night, where she joined Jack Nicholson in presenting the award for Best Picture.

Even White House reporters were surprised by the appearance, which was kept under wraps by the First Lady's press office.

But the most startling moment of the presentation came when Nicholson asked his co-presenter to announce the winner, and appeared to refer to the First Lady by her last name only.

"Obama, do you have your envelope?"

It's possible that the "Mrs." was simply cut off, but that didn't stop Michelle Obama and her aides from chuckling.

Here's How Oreo Tried To Win The Oscars On Twitter

You probably can't sleep if you're on Oreo's social media team.

After the cookie company's clever — and immediate — reaction to the Super Bowl blackout with a tweet that read "You can still dunk in the dark," Oreo has become the go-to brand for quick tweets on notable pop culture moments, complete with original artwork as well.

During the Grammy's, Oreo celebrated Justin Timberlake's musical turn by tweeting a picture of a cookie with a bow tie that read, "Bringing Tasty Back," (a reference to Timberlake's "Bringing Sexy Back").

It also brought its game face to Twitter for the Academy Awards.

Oreo's first Tweet was a reference to "Wreck It Ralph," which was nominated for best animated film:

Then, during the James Bond tribute, Oreo paid its own homage to the international man of mystery by recreating the films' famous gun barrel sequence:oreo james bond oscars

Of course, Oreo noted that everyone wasn't watching the Oscars. The cookie's Twitter account also gave a "Walking Dead" shoutout since the show was competing with the Academy Award broadcast:oreo oscars twitter walking dead

And finally, Oreo was there for biggest award of all: the best picture category. As soon as "Argo" one, Oreo tweeted a reference to its plot:oreo oscars twitter argo

While the Super Bowl tweet was completely off-the-cuff — no one expected a blackout in the middle of the biggest live broadcast of the year! — we're suspecting that many of these reactions were already ready to go by the time a winner was announced on TV.

Oreo even created a hashtag, #OREOmotionpics, for the affair.

Even though none of these tweets had the viral success of the blackout reaction, Oreo has cemented a spot as a real-time marketer to watch.

"Oh my god!" she squealed, before jokingly telling the Hollywood vet, "you're being really rude."

Jennifer Lawrence Forgot To Thank Harvey Weinstein And David O. Russell In Her Oscar Speech

Jennifer Lawrence

First, Jennifer Lawrence fell while walking up to the stage to accept her Best Actress Oscar for "Silver Lining Playbook."

Then, she forgot to thank the film's producer Harvey Weinstein and director David O.Russell.

Big no-no.

So in the wake of Lawrence's memory mishap, everyone's favorite actress released the below statement to Entertainment Weekly apologizing for her "brain fart.":

In the whirlwind of last night, I was remiss to thank two incredibly important people to this film and in my life.

David O. Russell: Thank you for the most incredible experience of my life. Thank you for your genius, for your guidance, for teaching me things about myself and nurturing me to be a better actor. You have so much passion and such a bleeding heart, you believe not only in your films but what your films can do for people and that is the most important thing that I have learned from you.

Harvey Weinstein: You championed this movie and its story from early days. Your passion and unyielding support gave this film the opportunity to thrive and touch so many people.

Thank you to both. I will never be able to forgive myself for such a brain fart but I hope that you both can. Obviously it was not on purpose, I couldn’t remember what I had already said and my mind went completely blank–your brain does funny things during the most overwhelming moment of your life!

Ben AffleckJust hours after getting emotional while accepting the award for Best Picture for his passion project "Argo," director Ben Affleck shaved off his lucky beard.

At the "Argo" after-party at Craig's restaurant in Beverly Hills, Affleck was handed a pair of clippers by his wife, Jennifer Garner.

"He did it himself at the restaurant," an insider revealed to Us Weekly, adding that his wife and George Clooney were egging him on as he shaved in a hallway.

"The whole family was tired of the beard!" adds the Us source. "Jen actually brought the clippers to the party."

As for why Ben felt the beard was good luck, TMZ says "Ben had facial hair when he re-emerged as a major Hollywood player."

"He did it to mark the end of a chapter," adds an E! Online source. "It had that ceremonial quality to it."

Now let's remember a more clean-shaven Ben:

Iran's state TV may have dismissed the Oscar-winning "Argo" as an "advertisement for the CIA," but they still showed an image of Michelle Obama presenting the film with the award for Best Picture.

But the image of the First Lady beamed in via video from the White House looked different for readers of the semi-official Iranian Fars news agency.

Michelle's Iranian alter-ego appeared in the same silver Naeem Khan gown, but with a high neckline and short sleeves to make her modest enough for public viewing.

The photo edit was first noticed by D.C.-based Iranian journalist, Golnaz Esfandiari.
